Under
the Skin
If
you drive a large V8, don't pick a fight
with someone who owns a XR6T. Its 24valve,
twin-over-head cam-shaft, Turbo charged
Inline 6 kicks out 240kWs at 5250 and
450Nm of torque is found between 2000 and
4500rpm which is more than the old XR8 and
the latest VY Commodore SS which will set
you back about $7,000 more and has two
more cylinders and 1.5 litres more
capacity.
Traction
control is standard equipment because you
will probably need it to stop lighting up
the rear wheels and Fords high tech
Control Blade IRS should keep the rear
wheels glued to the ground through
corners.
Also
the standard gear-box is a 5-speed manual
which will probably be fairly popular but
according to some writers, the 'Sequential
Automatic Transmission' which allows you
to have either manual or fully automatic
gear changes depending on what mood your
in.
Interior
The
inside of the XR6T is fairly much the same
as Futura. It includes the usual items
like power windows, CD player, audio
controls on the steering wheel, duel stage
airbags with the option of side ones. You
can also option on a DVD based Satellite
Navigation system, reverse perking system
and power adjustable pedals. Also a first
for Aussie cars, a high-tech safety
computer that detects where people are
sitting, how bad the impact was, where the
impact was and it then sends out that
information to the airbags, cruise control
and rear cupholders and arm rest. There
are two colours you can option on, a dark
interior or a light interior but the black
goes a lot better with the blue/purple
dash illumination and optional MOMO
gear.
Also
Acid Rush and Phantom which are a gold and
purple colour are options on the XR6 and
XR8 only.
Exterior
The
exterior of the XR6 and XR6T are both
based on the XT base model but have a
meaner body kit. They have slightly harder
suspension and have a unique head-light
set up where the quad-lights cut away at
the bumper. It also features unique side
skirts and front and rear bumpers along
with a large rear spoiler. The rear end of
both the cars is one of the prettiest ever
on a four-door sedan. Its cross between a
Aston Martin, BMW 7-Series and a AU3
Falcon and is absolutely
stunning.
