E265
Ford's new heart
Lets
face it, the facts show that the large car
sales have dropped over the last few year
with more buyers heading the Soft-Roader
direction or to smaller cars. In 30 years
we may not even have the Ford Falcon or
Holden Commodore and Marcos Ambrose may be
racing around Bathurst in a 600hp Raptor
4X4? Well mabey not the later but there
would be a large chance of the first
option.
Things such as the AU styling, VT quality
and reliability and petrol prices going
through the roof have led buyers to other
cars. Myself included, we used to always
have Falcons but two years ago we
down-graded to a Laser Lxi mainly because
of fuel consumption and questionable
styling of the AU but mabey with the
release of the much anticipated BA Falcon,
sales will swing back to the traditional
large family car? Time will tell but I'm
not holding my breath.
If the Falcon and Commodore do die out,
Holden will be affected much more because
of there AWD program. To put it simply,
the AWD Holden will be a raised Commodore
with power going through its front wheels
along with the rear and it will be seen
that way, a raised Family car and not a
true off-roader. Where as the E265/Raptor
program will differ a lot from its donor
Falcon as seen by the R7 concept first
shown at the Melbourne Motor Show earlier
year. And going by the costs, $500
Million, which is double what GM-H are
spending it should be and feel a almost
totally different car and hopefully the
normal Joe Bloggs will see it that
way.
Personally I believe that the E265 Project
will save Ford in the long run and I
eagerly await its release late next year
or early 2004.
